My son Amadeius was born in 1992. He was a cute and playful child. He had a bubbly personality and brought so much joy and laughter into my life.  However, in the Spring of 1994 when Amadeius was 20 months of age he became seriously ill. After being misdiagnosed several times, he took a serious turn downward and was in congestive heart failure. After a speedy admission to Children's Hospital in Oakland, it was the finally determined that my precious son had cancer.  I cannot give enough credit to Dr. Eliott Vichinsky for his rapid orchestration of medical personnel, test, equipment, along with his expertise in stabilizing my son that terrifying Saturday morning.

Amadeius was diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), cancer, and so began a parent's worst nightmare. His treatment protocol was a 38 month chemotherapy regimen. At  the time 38 months seemed like an eternity! I was thankful to have Dr. Barbara Beach as my son's physician at Children's.

Amadeius' condition was tenuous and required hospitalization at the hint of the slightest cold symptom. Under these conditions I needed great flexibility in my work schedule - it was at this time that Uncle Greg's Playhouses was born.
